Hello guys,

I am Aris from Mykonos, Greece!

Last month i bought XS 400 1977 model from Germany to start restoring it.

Today i found some time, so replace the battery and tried to start it for first time. Electrics work perfect! But when started some mixture of oil and gas started to come out from the air filter (carbs). Do you have any idea what is this? I know that i need to clean the carbs and change the liquids, but is this normal?

They told me that probably need to change pistons and cylinder. Any ideas?

Did you change the oil before trying to start the bike? It could be flooded carburetors, but it looks strange and foamy. It is also possible the jugs were full of water and it came out the intake when your turned the engine over.

I would most definitely drain the oil after seeing something like that!
