I have a 400 2e 1977 and it has no airbox but 2 ramair sponge filters.

It did not want to tick over and when hot revs would stay around 3000 revs and slowly go down
to a rough tickover. Usual story.

After fitting new carb rubbers and checking for air leaks, spraying carb cleaner around carbs with engine running, it was all ok.

So I took the float bowls off took all the jets and tubes out and cleaned them.
Checked floats and float height.

I also changed the pilot jet from 42.5 to a 45 and main from 137.5 to 142.5
Thanks to Allens Performance in the UK for their help and advice.
I took the caps off the pilot screws checked they were not broken and adjusted.

I tried to balance the carbs but it was not right.

I have a non vacuum tap and the PO had connected the vacuum take offs together.
I had capped both of them so I reconnected them together with a pipe and it runs very very well.

New plugs and the colour is fine.

Worth changing the jets as with sponge filters it is very easy to remove the carbs.
Almost perfect just need to do another balance to finish.

Hope this helps anyone with carb/filter issues.

They were fitted to the bike when I bought it.
They are Ramair all foam ones.

Some bikes do not like cone filters with the solid back plate as it upsets the air swirl intake
