So I stupidly ordered the bronze swingarm bushings from xs650direct/mikesxs even though they're not listed as compatible with my '82 SOHC XS400SJ.
Destroyed the nylon ones removing them.

Did a test fit of the bronze bushings over the inner bushing tube and they're pretty wobbly.

Just looking for someone to confirm that there shouldn't be any "wobble" before I order a different set of bronze bushings.

Will likely order these: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/YAMAHA-XS-40...00-Schwingenlager-Bronzebuchsen-/130617751792
As recommended here: http://www.xs400.com/threads/tracker-ish-v2-0.6981/page-2#post-89920

I got the tune and bronze bushes, had to have the bushes honed as the swing bolt wouldn't go through.
Use shims under the cups to take up slack (thats what yamaha did)

All right, I'll try the tube from Mike's/650direct.

Drewpy, how many shims did you need? I guess there's no way to know how many in advance, eh?

Thanks guys

no, you need to measure the gap and order the correct shims

On my four bikes only the 79 needed one shim and that was with oem bushings. The shims go in the cap seal to remove any side to side play between the swing-arm and frame not the "wobble" between the bolt and tube. Also keep in mind when everything is assembled and you push grease into the bolt some slack will be taken out. But even dry the fit should have only a little play/wobble.
