Hi guys. I picked up a 83 xs400k a few months back. Long story short, i found brake fluid dripping from the front wheel. I decided to take the caliper off, and found rubber piece surround the piston, which seems the caliper seal is blown. I am going to order the rebuild kit and rebuild it myself.

My question is here, what is the correct part number for xs400k front caliper?

I googled and only found rebuilt kit for 77-79 XS400, or 83 XS650.

There was a thread back in 2012 on this site, but the ebay link for that part was no longer valid.

Does anyone know this?

Also, my brake reservoir diaphragm is sort of degraded. It looks like noodles that has been soaked in water for 3 days. Should i replace it for 17 dollars, or get a generic new master cylinder off ebay for 27 dollars?

Thanks.

I remember the piston diameter is about 38mm, and somewhere said the XS650 share the same caliper as the 400?
Should i order the piston together just in case?

Thanks.!

The piston on its own costs about $50 so unless it is pitted, I don't see why should you replace it, it is just a piece of metal that pushes the break pad. I would recommend cleaning yours thoroughly and seeing whether it has any pitting, then ordering it if that's the case.
