Hello all, first post and my first bike. just got a 83 maxim 400 and while it is in pretty good shape it has a few issues. The indicators come on but dont blink, the brake light comes on as a running light but doesent come on when the brake is activated.

now the big one, there is an engine oil leak that apears to be comming from somewhere near the bottom of the chain housing.

thanks,
Evan

Does the rear brake come on with either the front or rear brake? if not it's likely that filament in the bulb is blown. They use a dual filament bulb.

As for the blinkers, the flasher could be going bad. Have you tried it with the bike running?

The oil leaks are common. It's likely the clutch pushrod seal but could also be the neutral switch o-ring, the stator grommet, the seal behind the sprocket or even one of the freeze plugs. You'll likely have to spray some carb or brake cleaner in the area, clean it all up and then go from there on finding the leak.

I had a leak from the pushrod seal, the freeze plug and the neutral switch o-ring.
