Gas Cap Seal

Just to clarify, does this seal work for the 1980 XS400SG gas cap? I've heard that it does and I've heard that it doesn't. Just want to make sure. Thanks

I got that for my 80 xs400 and mine ripped after a month. Still works ok but a part of the rubber is missing no idea what happened. I probably put it on wrong.
