Gear Lever/Selector Compatibility

My current gear lever has lots of play in it and based on the angles of it, hits my exhaust when I shift down. I found this:

All I really care about is where it slips on to the splined gear selector knob. Are all Yamaha's universal in that aspect? I remember reading that most Japanese bikes were pretty universal when it came to that. Yay or nay?

A 2010 R1 shifter linkage fit mine, so I'm assuming all Yam's share the same spline count.

Most Japanese bikes? I'd say no. I bought a lever that fit from a local shop. There were definitely a few different sizes for Japanese bikes. As for all Yamahas being the same I do not know.
