hardtailing without a frame jig

I had decided that the best way to weld on a hardtail without having a frame jig was to extend the swingarm, leave it in place and build the hardtail around it , then cut out the swing arm. Are there any good pictures that I may have not found, of a hardtail being done that way?Thanks
