Apparently the '81's have welds that hold the muffler to the headers. I could hack it off, but if I decide not to, does anyone know if the pre '81 headers will bolt up correctly?

You could cut off the muffler back a little from where the weld is and grind off the weld, then clamp on the new muffler. That way,you wouldn't loose any length of the pipe. lha
