Ignition

A month ago I bought a 1977 XS400. The ignition has 3 settings and I was wondering if anyone knows what the third one is? The first key position is to the left and it is obviously "off". The second position is the middle (vertical) one and is where I have the key to start and run the bike. There is a third position that is to the right and I was wondering if anyone knows what it is for.

Sometimes called the Park position, turns rear tail light on, but bike won't start. I guess it would be useful if your on the side of the road at night, at least until your battery dies.

Interesting, although it is not as practical as I would have expected haha thanks yet again for the information hmusket I really do appreciate it.
