New to the forum, hello to all, now with the newb questions :wink2: I've got a 79 xs 400, my first bike, and after looking around I've become obsessed with turning it into a cafe racer. First question is are there a better Carb out there for it? My current carbs work, just didn't know if there was something better. Second, whats the best site to get cafe style parts? Seats, signals, fairings etc...if I'm gna do it I'd like to get decent parts. Thanks in advance -Zach

The carbs you have can be awesome when tuned correctly. Check out Houghmade's posts about setting up and balancing your carbs. I was lucky enough to get my XS with clean and balanced carbs and am always impressed by how well the bike works, especially once I fixed the factory lean condition. One thing about the mikuni 34's, they have to be spotless to work right. As far as cafe parts, you kinda have to search around and find parts you like, I haven't found a "one source" site yet. Not much is made specifically for the XS400. One place I've bought parts from is TC Bros. Most of their stuff is for xs650's and cb750's but some is xs400 and they are pretty good about answering questions regarding fit. Most stuff is for chopper/bobber builds but they do have parts like rearsets, headlights, turn signals. Hope this helps. Oh, before someone else says it, we don't believe you really have a bike until you post a pic :)

Thanks ill have to check that out, I was looking at dime city cycles this morning and they have some good looking cafe parts. Ill get a pic up asap lol

For ideas check out my friiend Carly's site WWW.cb750cafe.com he has a lot of build pics to help generate those creative juices. Also search Benjis cafe as he has stuff as well. Good luck.

Click search, click advanced search, enter Carb then to the right enter houghmade.

I hope this helps

Here's some pics to prove the bike exists lol:laugh:

That looks pretty similar to m bike...so I like it. All I have done visually is put lower bars on mine, but I can imagine the full cafe' treatment looking pretty good.

Here are a couple of posts on carb health that I hope are useful:

Of course, ultrasonic cleaning seems to be the gold standard for cleaning, but othr things can work. First clean, clean, clean and clean, then adjust, balance and adjust.

My girlfriend got it for me, I think she said Spencer's, she has one with a hand on it that says support zombie resurrection lol
