Hey guys! Been surfing this website for a couple of months and wanted to introduce my first xs400. I didn't want to get to far into changing it into a Cafe Racer without putting the start of it up first. Hoping to do a lot this winter.
Picked up this 1980 XS400 Special a month ago. Everything seem fine so far. Did do a little work to it so I felt safe riding it. You know, just wanted it to show it's issues before the snow covers the ground. The PO removed a lot of the much needed part(speedometer), but left them in a box for me. Not sure i will use any of it, it's in bad shape.
Just want it to be mechanically sound by spring. Then I will work on it's cosmetics.

What is fixed so far

Replaced front shoes and cable(aftermarket cable didn't fit right :banghead: )
Front wheel bearings(this website came in handy)
Adjusted the clutch (again this website and youtube came in handy)
Replaced spark plugs with what the manual says BP7ES.

What I want to get done this winter;
New fork springs and seals, also New Rear shocks
rebuild starter (nothing happens when I hit the button)
New Cafe Seat(optional). have clubman bars on now, just need to turn them around
Rebuild Carbs and sync them
Pod filters
New Pegs
Valve adjustment
Gauges, turn signals, Head light
All new Yamaha factory cables

Might be missing something.

If any one has any ideas on what, where and how to make it a sweet road machine, I'm all ears.
Thanks!
