my front brakes wont work

Hello everyone, my name is khaleel. I am new to the motorcycle world and I just purchased my first bike ( of course it's a 79 xs400). The only problem I have with the bike is the front brakes will not work. I have checked the hoses, took the brakes off and checked the calipers which all seem fine to me. I have even bled the brakes but my lever is still loose as ever like there is no friction at all I am at a loss. I do not have a service manual and cannot afford to see a mechanic is there anyone here who may have a solution? Thank you for your time

Sounds to me like you may have a problem with your master cylinder or air in the system.

I've also heard pulling your brake lever overnight (with zip ties) can help build up pressure. Not sure how it works though, maybe someone with a bit of experience can shed some light on this?
