XS400 Addict
I feel like there may be a knock and that the valve are excessively loud but I have no experience with engine sounds and have no correctly running xs400 to compare with so any input would be helpful and appreciated.

Hard to tell as the sound was not very good. But it don't sound bad. These bikes do make a bit of a top end rattle a bit just make sure the valves are set to thew correct spec and do them from left to right ( left piston first the the right).
sounded fine to me too, air cooled motor = no water jacket to deaden sound. same for my fz600 as well
