Hello everyone I have happily just become owner of a 1981 xs400. This is my first motorcycle ever lol and I love it! Can't wait to start learning and start making it my own! I have no knowledge of motorcycles, but I am an automotive tech by day. But anyways here is my bike and I am planning on building it in a bobber/cafe style....

Im Currently working on my 81 XS400H. started with frame and motor only. Got YX600 Radian front and rear swing arm and forks, triple.

Got the bike out today and cleaned the plugs, got some new gas in, and took the chrome rear seat bracket thing off...Still have not been able to ride it since I dont have my motorcycle licence yet

Boomer you picked a good starter bike and I was similar to you about 2 years ago.picked up my 1st bike a 81sh learned to ride her and have been a backyard /home mechanic since Ive been 12.I even lived west Plains Missouri,licking and Ozark until 14 years ago then I moved back north.Im not too clear if that good or bad thing though.I hate the dam winters up here.I think about moviong back down south a lot.Anyways welcome here

Small update: Took mirrors and front fender off and put on some powdercoated drag bars.

As for riding you can always just go for ride in the neighborhood or on side roads to get feoel for your bike.As for the permit Im still riding on mine also but will be going to get my endorsements this year.
