I have a gas cap with key but the mechanism inside the lock does not work. The key turns but it does not cause the latch to release. I pulled one off of a 77 to replace this one.
You can have it for free. I do come down to Kinnelon NJ every couple of weeks if you can wait or just pay the shipping cost $5.80.

How would I get it open to put gas in it ? Any chance it can be fixed

screw driver will open it by popping the latch from underneath. I do not know if it can be fixed as I did not bother trying since I got one off the 77.
