Petcock Issue

Have a similer issue with my petcock. rebuilt it twice with differant vendors kits$$$$ but still leaking. some photos i see have the prime line facing down, mine came apart facing up. thought the line looked kinked that way but, up or down it still leaks.Read about a recall to replace these problem petcocks i.d.#32138 effective for xs400models. i have a 1978 e model and have had luck with more than that. any thoughts?

Is it possible to put the face plate upside down?

Petcock rebuild kit with an extra - a large o-ring - would be the wrong kit.

I had leaking when rebuilding the petcock due to putting the diaphragm onto the plate the wrong way and it leaked in any position.

Summary
THE FUEL PETCOCK, WHICH CONTROLS THE FUEL SUPPLY FROM THE GAS TANK TO THE CARBURETOR, MAY BE DEFECTIVE. THE INVOLVED PETCOCK CONTAINS A RUBBER DIAPHRAGM. IN THE EVENT THAT A HOLE DEVELOPS, FUEL MAY BE MISDIRECTED AND MAY MANIFEST ITSELF IN A FUEL LEAK IN THE PETCOCK HOUSING.

Remedy
DEALER WILL INSTALL AN IMPROVED FUEL PETCOCK WITHOUT CHARGE TO OWNER.

How do I tell is there any way of telling if mine is deffective while its off the bike or if it was a replacement of the stock petcock? I assume new old stock would have not been part of the recall if there are some out there.

Not sure Tim. I'm still tring to get to the bottom of the recall with no luck.Safety recalls such as this one are good for life or so i was told by the dealer but he is running into block walls as well.
My plan is to reseal it one more time than if failing again i'll pay the big price and get an after market one that can be adapted to fit.
