Points and spark advance

Hi Yammies, My 400 is treating me nice and has given me no problems since the 400.00 purchase 2 month.ago. What a sweet bike. Easy to work on. My question is What are the chances of the points and spark advance system from a 1978 xs working on a 81 xs?

The 81 has an ignitor box but I think it would work if you swapped everything over from the 78. Don't quote me on that though becuase I haven't done it. Let us know if you give it a shot.

After breaking down a bunch of these engines I have noticed that the points systems use an extra wire in the charging system. Might need to swap this as well.
