Rear adjustment

Hey Everybody,

Just getting back into riding after a many year absence and looking forward to it. Just purchased a 1981 XS 400 Special II, no owners manual was avaliable so will be relying on you all for some guidenance.

I am wondering about where the rear suspension should be set for different situiations.

The spring preload can be adjusted by turning the stepped ring around the shock.

If it is the shock spring preload you are asking about, it's pretty much a personal preference where you set it. Also depends on if you ride tow-up and your own weight. I am on the light side at 155 lbs. so I set mine on the soft next to the bottom setting for a little softer rear ride.
