Moving forward with my rear drum to disc conversion...my god is this carrier bulky and ugly looking. Has anyone taken out some material from this thing to make it a bit slimmer and less obtrusive? Maybe some speed holes or slots? I'm not sure how much torque is on this, but I've seen smaller carriers on newer bikes, so I'm curious. Obviously I don't want the thing to snap when I'm braking hard.

I've also thought about ditching the top brake mount. I wanted to weld up a "U", and use the existing top mount hole to attach it to the carrier. The U would rest on the swingarm to prevent rotation, similar to a modern Harley or sportbike set up. Anyone tried that? Will the carrier/caliper fit between the shock and swingarm?

I'd scrap the whole stock set up, you're right it's an anchor:D. Rear brembo/gixxer/r1 calipers are super cheap on fleabay and if you have a welder, it's easy to make them work. Check out my build thread to get some ideas:wink2:
