This weekends ride I noticed my rear seems really soft..almost bouncy in some turns and I am thinking that its probably due to the original shocks on the bike being so old.

I have a set of rebel 250 shocks that I was going to use to lower the rear a little, which will also stiffen up the back Im assuming because I was told the rebel shocks are stiff.

My question is, will it be ok to install the rebel 250 shocks without lowering the front forks at all? The rebel 250 shocks are shorter than the originally yamaha ones.

Any insight?

Sounds like the dampening is gone from the shocks. You could replace them with some 12.5" (stock size) new ones or use what you have. The think the rebel shocks are the 10" ones so the bike will drop a lot in the back and might be a issue with your fender. As for dropping the front that would be up to you and how the bike rides.
