Hey everybody my name is Michael and I I'm working on cleaning up my stator and clutch housing covers for my 1981 Yamaha XS400 Special II. I've never done this before so I was looking for some tips. I've just sand blasted and set the cover in a vibratory deburr finishing tank for a few hours. The case came out great, it's free of oxidation, dirt, gunk, scratches etc.

Only question I have is what's the best way to clear coat the cover to preserve this nice look and prevent new oxidation.

Thanks!

I wouldn't even do it. Most times it will peel and turn yellow. Remember that these parts of the motor will be at least 200F. Store the bike in a warm dry place year round and it will stay clean.

Thats the problem with metals like aluminum, even chrome. Its a finish that needs to be maintained. VHT makes some high heat clear coats. The only problem is that those side covers see a lot of abuse and would probably wear off just from your foot rubbing on it all the time.
