I have this weird problem with the speedometer gear. Both the gear and forks look stock to me, but the pin on the fork does not fit in the gap on the gear and it rotates on the wheel. The pin is smaller and ends before reaching the gear. I want to fix that but I am not sure what should I be looking for, a new/old original gear for xs400SE or try to determine what where the forks taken from and find a matching gear.

How does one tell if the forks are original?

wonder if the "pin" is bent as they are quite weak! the forks look original and you have the later swinging caliper fitted. (used on later RD's too)

How do you have the bolt for the front wheel on the bike I would take some pics of what you have. It just might be assembled wrong.

Thank you for replies. I finally got to the bike to take a photo.

The pin doesn't look bent or broken but you can see they don't match at all... Could someone please take the same photo of their bike?

It just look as if some part is from a different bike. Just need to figure out which one
