Starter works intermittently?

After putting my bike back together, I realized that my electric starter wasn't working correctly. I can get it to go (sometimes), but other times it just does the "click" like it's a dead battery. The battery is brand new, terminals are all in good shape, so what's going on?

Start with the simple, aka inexpensive, stuff first.

Assuming you have a good battery check for the following;

1. Bad ground to the starter.
2. Bad solenoid.
3. Bad starter button.

Check fuses. If the IGN fuse is loose in it's holder that might do it. Don't bend the holder, though - those things are brittle and will break from a good sneeze. Just replace the fusebox.
