tire & wheel size

The more I look, the more I like the looks of the front & rear tire being the same size.I'm wondering how hard it would be to find a wheel rim that I could put on the front of my '80 model 400 to match the rear.I'm heading out to count the holes in the rims now and to see if the front spokes can be shortened for the smaller rim. Or , do I want to change the rear rim to match the front one I now have? I'm liking the looks of painted rims instead of chrome too. Should I have my rims sandblasted before painting them? thanks.

I have 18" rims front and back. I had the rims powder coated first before being re-spoked. if they are alloy, you can get them anodised as well!
