What are these bikes really worth...

Not that. There was a shit ton of them made....late 70's ujm....not really anything collectable about them....modifying it doesnt make it so either.

Saw a pretty nice 82 here for 3000.....super nice. But thats rediculous.

I cant stand the way all of the rubes in this province think anything that older and japanese is a "collector bike". Like the cm400 hondamatic for 1200 that was a non running rusty pos.

Lets face it, the 80's was a pretty malaise era for the japanese....alot of ugly shit. Buck horns and stepped seats with soft pogo sticks for forks. Yes, there is exceptions.

Even shiity condition rz350's here...yeah, awesome bike, can be collectible. But your ratty ill maintained junk is as valuble as that wayne gretzky rookie card you hung with thumb tacks.

I wonder how much the price increases when there's a BikeExif article about it:
http://www.bikeexif.com/yamaha-xs400-2
It's also been in a few races, though I have no idea how it did.

Someone producing that in their garage would not get that price, but with her name on it, the history, and the quality of professional work done to the bike she'll probably get what she's asking or close to it.
Especially in Portland.

Here is what is typically listed on Craigslist in this area: $800 http://portland.craigslist.org/yam/mcy/4718308428.html I'm more than happy to let Ginger race/ride my bike any time she wants if that'll bring it's value up. I'll even give her the code to the garage door!

I'm probably just too old and out of touch, but it still seems like a lot to me. That, or I need to starting asking more for the stuff I sell...

Not at all!!! First off NO TITLE!!! I would say it's a $800-1k bike at best if you are going to race it. $300 for parts as is with no title for the street. A salvage title can be a pain to get cleared and with it setup for the track getting it road worthy will cost some $$.

If it has a title and runs good offer $600.

It is a beautiful bike though, found it on bikeexif yesterday. I'd probably paint the wheels black though
Steep price though, especially if it doesn't have a title!

It has a title, just not a clean one.

Is the price reasonable? No.
Will someone with too much money pay it to get a custom bike? Sure.
