Im looking to do a simple bob to a 77 xs400 I recently picked up and was wondering what all tanks are complete bolt ons for this model.

There aren't many simple bolt on tanks that fit the XS400 because of the triple back bone. There is even trouble with compatibility between different years and models of the XS400 itself. Others in the XS range can fit, again depending on year and model but nearly all tanks will take a bit of modification to make then fit and most of the XS range look similar to each other anyway. One of the main problems is the placement of petcock as it tends to hit on of the two side pieces of the triple backbone.
Either find a tank that you like and fits in with the styling you want for your bike and do the mods (or get someone to do them) or try to alter the look of your existing tank with knee dents of something. There is a good write up on this forum in the Tech section.

A few people have thrown a Sporty or King tank on the XS400 and sat them on the sides of the backbone for a traditional bobber look, but again this will need some fab work.
Here is a build thread from the TCU where Beaker fitted an Alien tank from Lowbrow to his bobbed XS400.

There just isn't much in customization of a 30+ year old bike which is "bolt on". It don't seem to work that way.

I wasnt expecting many bolt ons like a Harley. Just wondering if any of the special model tanks will fit on it. I can find them on here and ebay pretty easily. I dont like the cafe style square tank. If I actually decide to chop this and not turn it for some cash I would fab up some mounts for a sporty tank. Just kinda want to make a quick bob for the girlfriend to learn on without chopping it up. Its to clean to chop in my eyes.
