    How do I go Black?

It needs carb mods anyway, ran like crap all season. Drewpy - that pic is exactly what I DON'T want to have happen, yikes!

    How do I go Black?

This is my beautiful '83 Maxim, all stock except for the obvious accessories you see (top kit, saddlebags, windshield and grips). I'm not interested in chopping it, but what I'd really love to do is black it out… bars, signals, engine, exhaust, headers.. everything. However, I have zero...

Lol no, not very… but perhaps if you still have it in the spring when I move to Toronto...

    Chilton's Manual?

Well I guess that's going to make it awfully hard to find then! lol Appreciate the info, you just saved me hours of searching. :D

Thinking of selling mine. What do you think I should ask?

I think you should sell it to me for $1,000! :D That's almost exactly how I want to make mine look. From what I've seen, prices on these guys vary a TON… I got mine (very clean, 14,000km on it, all original) for $900… but the day before I looked at one that was the same year and in rougher...

    Chilton's Manual?

It was recommended to me that I invest in a Chilton's Manual for my bike, but after poking around online I'm not having any luck. Does such a manual exist for an '83 XS400? Anyone know where I could find one?

    Headlight, will this work?

Interesting.. it's listed as being suitable for a headlight, and there's even photos of it as a motorcycle light.

    Headlight, will this work?

Dave, can you perhaps recommend one of these LED replacement bulbs?

    Headlight, will this work?

Oops, sorry, it's an '83 Maxim 400 Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but it says power consumption is 40.5 watts. The idea, of course, is to decrease the power being used in comparison to the stock bulb. Perhaps that isn't possible in a "plug n play" kind of application.

    Headlight, will this work?

Like most people, looking to upgrade my headlight. My friend has suggested this, but after reading on here, it doesn't seem like a simple switch is even possible…...

    Aftermarket Seat?

No, I'm not "chopping" or altering the bike, so a cafe racer style seat won't work.

    Aftermarket Seat?

I have to admit, my least favourite aesthetic element of my '83 Maxim is the big ol' banana seat. I also think something a bit thinner and more narrow would help the bike to fit me better. I'd love to replace the seat, but don't want to spend a fortune. Can anyone recommend somewhere online I...

'82 xs400 maxim saddlebags and such?

Those seem quite heavy, no? How would they be mounted, need to build some type of frame for them?

Will a heated vest or jacket work with a 1982 XS400?

I realize this is a really old thread, but thought I'd chime in, in case anyone reads through the archives like me. The original owner of my bike wired it for heated grips and a heated vest. I know nothing about the vest, but obviously it can be done. And to my knowledge, everything on the...

    Help! 1980 XS400 or 2015 SR400

Congrats, sweet looking little bike! I just got my very first bike a couple weeks ago ('83 Maxim 400) and have absolutely loved working on it.. nothing too heavy-duty, but there's definitely a certain amount of pride in getting your own bike into top form.
