pistons

Hi there, im new here, but it does not matter i guess :) Im wondering whether some pistons are interchangable between models/model codes respectively. According to thist thread (post #12 http://www.xs400.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4458 ), the 2A2 and 2LO (and also 2G5, 2V6... stops with secas)...

Hey Ive bought a 1978 XS 250 cheap and i found a XS400 cylinder bloke and pistons and i was wondering if anyone has ever done that conversion before and is it possible and how much work is it?

Is it safe to use 0000 grade steel wool on the faces of the pistons to remove carbon? I have been using 000 grade wool and kerosene to remove head gasket residue; is this a good idea? 1977 XS400D.
