Hey guys,

Just wanted to introduce myself since i'm sure over the next few months i'll be prowling and asking a lot of (probably) stupid questions. I'm working on restoring my dad's old 1980 xs400 that has been sitting for about 20 years. Finally pulled it out of the deepest dirtiest corners of the garage.

So far I'm in the process of taking it all apart and cleaning whatever I can. So far have it down to the carbs. Already have a new battery, new air filters, oil filter, all the basic stuff. Haven't managed to get it to turn over so that's the reason for tearing it down and figuring out what's wrong with it.

I'll try and post more pics when I get some time.

Welcome to the forum. I would put a little oil down the cylinders and slowly kick it over a few time to make sure nothing is stuck.

Thanks. I'll keep that in mind after i put it back together. Not looking forward to the nightmare of a 20 year time capsule in the carb and downward, but hopefully a soak will do most of the dirty work.

Make sure to completely take them apart and remove all the rubber bits before putting parts in cleaning solution.
