Anyone Know if 3-in-1 Household Oil is Paint Safe?

Using a variety of online links/resources, I've devised an itemized to-do list for winterizing a motorcycle. One source mentions wiping down metal parts using light machine oil, such as 3-in-1. I've googled around but am unable to determine if said oil is safe for painted metals.

Anyone know?
