I just got my 400 xs, the battery was bad upon purchase, it would not hold a charge. I bought a new one last weekend. When the bike is running the voltage is comming across at under 12 v, 11.4 a d dropping even when the rpms are above 2000. I rode it for a short ride about 3 miles parked it foran hour and began to ride home. About a mile in the motor began to flood and shortly after it stopped. I got the bike home and checked the battery. It was doa at 5.5 v. I'm not sure where to start with my trouble shooting any help will be aprechated. Today I'm going to blow out the carbs and attempt to take a lookat the stator to see if there are any visible issues.any other ides?

well, the voltage regulator is pretty important in your charging system and apart from broken wires (check under the clutch cover) these tend to go. You wll have a solid state version, so should be easy enough to replace if needed. download a manual as it gives you the procedure to check them
