Engine will only run on choke

Hey guys second post on XS400.com and I must say you guys are a helpful bunch of people,

Anyways Im hoping you can help me out again, I just reinstalled my carbs after cleaning them and tried to start my bike, its start but on run on choke, and dies when you add throttle. I think it could be something with the pilot jet, is it really just 2-1/2 turns out from snug?

Any and all ideas would be greatly appreciated

The pilot jet (and the main jet) should be snug, just tightened down until they stop (they strip easily, especially the pilot jets, so don't go too hard on them). The idle air screws, on top of the carb at the outlet side closest to the engine, should be 2.5-3 turns out from snug.
