Kick start works intermittently

Today I was changing a fuse in my 1980 XS400 and I heard something in the back of the bike sound like it arced. I don't know what it could be or what caused it, but now my kick starter will only turn the engine over about once every 5-7 kicks and it won't start. I don't know what I could have done that did it, but I don't know what could have caused this. Does anyone have any ideas?

non-working Kick start is almost usually down to the clutch slipping or disengaged. can you bump start it to isolate that problem?

Drewp is all over this...Search the forum..you will find my name with this issue..listen to drewpy...and then use rotella as the search results highly reco.. I did it..this is no longer an issue, even on the coldest mornings..cheers!!
