Petcock Spring Length - XS400K

I've got a 1983 Maxim and I am rebuilding the petcock to fix an internal leak. I was reading through this link since the petcock appears to be the same. The page lists the stock spring length to be about 20mm but mine is closer to 10mm.

Anyone know what the length is supposed to be?
