Ok fellas,
Hi, thanks for having me. I just joined and I'm asking questions and maybe not all the right ones... I sure could use some help here.
I have a 1981 SOHC xs400 and I'd like to swap motors for a 1978 SOHC motor. Will these swap out, bolt in, and just rock out? Seems to me there may be a difference in electrics, no? Both have points... There's no way this could be that easy. Please advise if you have anything that can help. I really appreciate it and hope to be of use here some day.

Just take the points out of the 78 and swap in the 81's pickup coil assembly you will just have it timed in.
