XS400 top speed??

Okay but do you think that the spark plug adaptor is the cause of that plug to run leaner than the "normal" plug? The adaptor reduces the depth of the plug.

The plug may not be running leaner, it may be running hotter. Take a close look at the ground electrodes of the plugs. There should be a noticeable change in the colour of the deposits on the electrodes, about 3 mm up from where it is welded to the body. The deposits should be darker close to the body. If you can post a picture of the plugs, that would help.

Ill post some pic. Will advancing the ignition do the idle any good? I read that older bikes (worn) need to have the ignition advanced a bit.

If you have points on your bike make sure the governor assembly is clean and lubed well.

Vloukole? did you ever post which bike you have there?

I was just thinking that Farmboy got up to 110 pounds, I bet he is not pushing a well define beer belly. I bet the test driver for the Yamaha back in the late 70's was a small japanese person. I have also been trying to figure out the elusive speed demon, and I think your right, gonna have to cut the beer, the pork, the pizza, Whats left to eat after that????? Worse three seconds ;) ever. There is a thread where I was trying to figure out the pilot screw was tied to performance. I was wrong. That was under the title MPG or MPH. The other genie is the MPG genie. Why am I only getting 40 mpg, where farmboy is problably getting 55 mpg, and going 110mph. Farm boy may have the size/weight of our japanese tester from 3 decades ago. (I am just guessing) don't stop eating guys, or drinking. I am sure there is something more than water filtered by barley. I just cant think of it right now, H20??? I dont know, I have to go to work ...

See you guys! ps I was 210 all summer

Arfstrom it is a 81 special. Stock except for the exhaust. Very true. Im accepting the top speed. I love my meat!!!

Hmmmm, Thanks giving, Halloween, Pumpkin spice flavored coffee, and chocolates and cookies, I suppose there is a reason I am not losing wt? too many carbs, daily. (I used the word carbs :p )

No matter how much I eat I will say around 165:laugh: Even at 40 years old my metabolism won't let me put on weight. My wife hates me for it.:D

Thats a pretty good estimate! Im about 130 lbs so it doesnt take much to haul me around, and last time i filled up I was getting 65MPG when im not riding her too hard. But when it went 110 I wasnt on it, my friend who weighs about 200 was on it.

Im very active as it is its just when you get 50 ish your metabolism slows down.Like I said I work out on my tread mill for about 1/2 hour after dinner.I set it on arobic which is fast.I work up a good swett while Im on it plus Im outdoors a lot doing something when it isn't freezing azz cold.Considering my age Im not that much in bad shape.People say I Im skinny so that's makes feel good about myself.

I'm 170 pounds and 6'4'' (so catching alot of headwind) and my seca takes me to about 90 mph, and that's not its top speed I think. I just ran out of road to test it, it takes its sweet time at those speeds :p

For the rest of the world: that's 77 kg, 1.93 m tall, and about 145 km/h :)

chris im with you. i have been 155-165 since high school, the change in weight is if i have been in the gym or not that month. my girlfriend hates it

but i have not come even close to my bikes top speed yet

I was only 135 till I got to 25. Then peaked between 165-170 when I hit 30.

bringing back this old post, but on my Maxim I easily get to 85 on my gps but the fastest I have had it was 95 and it was rapping at about 9500 rpm...the bike started to float at these speeds so I backed it down but I think I could get over 100mph if I had the space...not sure if I would want to though.

I had my 82 up to 80mph with plenty to go but I felt a lot vibration in the highway pegs could feel it in my feet so I backed off. Also the engine was screaming, out of curiosity can I cruse at 65 mph, for extended periods, say an hour with the engine at those rpms? Sorry to hijack.
