    Cafe? Brat style?

Thanks Sandman. I was looking into the cheap RFY shocks on ebay. After reading some reviews I may still go with them. They may be good for my purpose. This was one of the reviews I read on them. http://chrislivengood.net/wp/rfy-shocks-overview/

    Cafe? Brat style?

I didn't completely disappear just been busy with work and working on the my XS. Finally got the new headlight installed. And the new speedometer. I have the matching tach but decided not to use it due to it not reading correctly. The tach I purchased is a 1.5 ratio but reads around 2000 rpm...

    Cafe? Brat style?

Not sure where I'm going with this build yet. Had all intentions of a Scrambler build when I started. Probably gonna be more Brat style by the looks of it so far. What do you guys think so far? Still got work to do on the front. Gonna go with a smaller headlight for starters. 5-3/4" with an H4...

So here is what I come up with to clean up the rear end still using the stock rear fender. From this. I also replaced the chain and sprockets with and EK oring chain and JT steel sprockets. Mufflers are on their way. Next is to work on the front end.

    81 XS400 RH Handlebar Switch...Brown??

Depends on the state of charge the battery had before sitting that long. I know if you let a battery sit for a while below 10 volts it's not good for the battery. I would try a new battery first before buying other components especially if they were good before. Maybe test those if your not sure...

That explanation makes more sense to me. Thanks chris. I took the .020 shims out of the needles putting them back to stock. Took it for a 40 mile ride this morning and it made a big difference, way better. Just pulled the plugs and they look more like what you described. I think I also need the...

    81 XS400 RH Handlebar Switch...Brown??

By the looks of it I don't think it matters as long as you keep the brown and red wires from the new switch matched with the red with white stripe wires from the old switch. It's a simple on and off switch. Be safe and check continuity from the switch terminals to the switch casing (ground)with...

    Mufflers

Right side isn't much to look at any more but I do agree if they were in better shape I would either take them off and save them or just keep them on the bike. Thanks for the input xschris, I do value your input. From reading on this forum I see you have a lot of knowledge on these bikes. I will...

    Another Newbie

My stock H pipe has a tear in the rubber in one side. A new old stock I found on Ebay was $45 for one side. I went with the pods because they were cheaper and ultimately with my build the side covers and battery box are going away. I do understand though that those pods would create a turbulence...

    After market mufflers

Wish those came in black. And a few inches shorter. Like around 23".

    Mufflers

I have my eyes on the Emgo reverse cone 17" mufflers(black). Anyone have any experience with those on an XS400 bike? Reviews I have read some say they are loud which I really don't want to loud of an exhaust. Is there a way to quiet them down some? Are they really that loud on an XS? My idea is...
