Hi! I have a '82 xs400 12e seca and clutch keeps acting up. It clicks into gear and rides smooth in low rpms but as soon as I get up to about 3000rpms the clutch slips and loses gear. This resulting in me not being able to travel at more than 80km/h. I have replaced all the friction plates and spring over the winter but it still feel the same. Any help would be awesome!

How did the steel plates look when you changed the friction disks? The only other thing i can think of is double check the clutch cable adjustment and lever freeplay?

Do what tstidham suggested first, but what oil are you using - is it rated for use for a motorcycle with a wet clutch? If the oil is not JASO MA or MA-2 rated, it may cause the clutch to slip.

And on that same thought for having wet clutch compatible oil, did you soak the new frictions in oil prior to installing them? If not, they make take some time in a running bike before the get thoroughly wetted out.

The steel plates looked fine, I think the cavle "freeplay" is right byt i am Kina lost regarding that. It is an old cable, should I just replace it?

The oil is correct I triple checked it and it is is JASO MA

I did wet the plates before install

After googling a bit I think the problem is the clutch lever assembly. Maybe I didnt do the adjuster screw right on the lever. Will have to check that out in the morning
