    Battery or Charging system?

OK, well I solved the problem! Turns out it was my regulator/rectifier. Purchased a second hand one off eBay and bam solid 14.8v above 2k. Just a side note, if you search eBay for xs400/maxim 400 regulator rectifiers they are not cheap $30+ for a 30 year old part.. no thanks! Noticed the new...

    Battery or Charging system?

Aren't they the same thing? The VR and the rectifier? I have an 83 DOHC. If that makes any difference. I'm probably wrong

    Battery or Charging system?

OK so got a charger and a multimeter and charged the batt as it was dead. Bike stated right up idled fine but when I revved it the voltage went uplike crazy. 3-6k was about 15-17v anything above 7k was up to 19v. So that's pretty high. Regulator problem?

    Battery or Charging system?

Yeah I don't think its the battery as it had more juice in it this morning. If it was dead it would have nothing... Damn

    Battery or Charging system?

OK so the one thing that's never given me grief has been the charging system.. Until now. I took the bike out for a long ride approx 1hr down the hwy doing 120 km/h the whole time. Get the bike home have a rest and then took it out again. First I noticed my turn signals on the dash dim and not...

    DOHC Starts sometimes, not others...

If you have the stock airbox your jets should be miss matched, reason being the battery takes up a lot of the airbox space making the airflow to each carb different. My PO changed them to matched jets and it ran like crap. Changed it back and finally had midrange. I'm running a MAC 2 into 1...

    In or Out?

Ok so I bought the same jets again (42.5) and the guy at the shop drilled them out for me ever so slightly making them approx 43. No difference still ran crap. Im convinced i need to go smaller

Pulled my pilots and they don't have air bleed holes. Do they normally have them?

    In or Out?

Yeah its not about the sound I don't mind it, just using it to try and solve my problem. Its hard because the symptoms for lean and rich are almost the same. My plugs look fine but the bike doesn't run on the pilot circuit for that long so I don't think it would show. Bike feels sluggish when...

    In or Out?

I'm running stock 42.5 pilots. I'm going to remove the air filter today and see if it improves. If its worse that would suggest I'm too lean right? I've set the float heights. Made a small improvement but nothing major. I also have popping on decel which apparently suggests lean. I don't mind...

    In or Out?

Ok so i'm trying to remove my problem with my bike bogging below 2.5 - 3k. It seems to run better with 1.5 out vs 2.5-3 turns out on the pilot screws. So i'm trying to figure out if I need to go bigger or smaller Pilot jets. I had a look at the Mikuni manual and it suggests that going out...

    Maxim 400 help Please!

Ok so I went 127.5 left and 117.5 right. Wow what an amazing difference! Way more power and it actually wants to get to redline now. I'm noticing a little bog so I think I'll go back to stock 125 left 115 right and it should be right. Now just to tackle the low end. I still have hesitation below...
