82 xs400 Heritage special wont kick start

just bought it today old owner said bat is dead because its been siting for 3 years so i tried kick starting it and it won start, checked gas its full (new Gas)
checked fuse box found 3 good ones dont know how many i need to have
checked petcock its pointing to on
sprayed carb with carb cleaner
tried kick staring with full choke, half and no choke
tried jump staring and using electric start and it wont turn over due to dead starter

when kick starting sounds like it has compression but i dont know what is preventing it from turning over

any Ideas????? please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These bikes won't start without a charge in the battery, period. Kicking it will not cure it- it will not make spark without a decent battery.


When you get a charge in it- turn the petcock to PRI (prime) to start it. There should be 4 fuses.

thanks just got it running not i just have to find out what happen to the missing fuse
