83 Maxim - safely disassemble the rear suspension?

I'm tearing down my 83 Maxim. What is the safest way to disarm the rear suspension spring? It appears to be loaded, and I could injure myself by removing bolts.

no it won't spring out as its held by the piston rod.

you need to watch the suspension collapsing though as the spring holds the back end up
