Broken-off idle mixture screw needles

Hey there, so... yeah. I've made this rather unpleasant discovery - the tips of idle mixture screws broke off into the hole (BS 34 '81 screws, springs, no washers). I've done some research but I STILL want to ask you, guys, which method is the safest and most likely leading to success. Thank you!
 
I have used a fine tip dental pick (purchased from local surplus store) to push a broken tip out. Be sure to get the washers and o-rings when you order new pilot screws.
 
Just to let everyone know, after trying to punch them out, bringing the carbs to a higher temperature, I ended up drilling them out. And voila, I'v managed to set the mixture just right!
