Well a set of carbs off an 80 xs400 fit on a 78?

Why the main jet? Displacement hasn't changed...If I understand correctly, he wants to swap a carbs set from one SOHC to another. Pipes and Airfilters could be different though requiring jetting changes...

Pipes are stock and going to run pod filters so I know the jetting well have to change, I just want to make sure the spacing is the same? I also know that on an 82 xs400 the spacing is narrower, then the 78. I was hoping the 80 carbs were the same as the 78 xs400!!

i am assuming that its a dohc carb going onto a sohc bike. if that's not the case, you should be ok just to swap over.

i just pulled the shafts out of an '80 400 carb and put them into my 78 carbs, checked all the jets, they were identical, but i do not know what model the donor bike was. only differences i've noticed between the two is the idle mixture screws are different designs (rats) and the 80's uses a rubber plug instead of a machine bolt for the starter jet plug
