I need to cut the frame and weld on a hoop before I can continue with my project. I'm probably going to go with this hoop from Dime City Cycles http://www.dimecitycycles.com/dcc-originals-diy-custom-rear-tail-hoop-for-large-cc-motorcycles.html My question is, with my 78 xs400 2-e, am I going to need the 7/8" hoop, or the 1" hoop? Also, the price will be $94, would it be cheaper to just find someone near me who could make the hoop, or would the savings be negligible? This is my last step before starting paint and the rebuild, so any help is really appreciated!

You want the 7/8 (22mm) tube. $94 is a lot for what is essentially about $5 (or less) worth of tube that has a bend in in it.

$94? For hoop like this one? Noway...
Try to find someone who will bend it for you...it should be a lot more cheaper and it could be bent to fit directly to your frame

To echo Greasy, you need the 7/8 Large CC hoop. I shelled out the cash for it, even with the large one I had to squeeze the frame in a hair to line it up. So far no adverse reactions to the squeeze, I like it better anyways as I felt the hips on the ol girl were a bit too wide.

Looking back I probably would have just gone to a shop. Hindsight...
