Hello guys again!

I'm having hard conversation with previous owner of my bike. I think my bike had crash long time ago, and i'm almost convinced that frame has disorted geometry and has some post factory welds.

It would be great if you guys could take a look on those photos and say if everything is ok with welds, and if this kind of welds are standard on XS.

Look to be factory welds. They where very sloppy from the factory. Some countries where they made them the welds are even worse. Here are two neck pics from my 79 and 80.

Thanks!
Thats helpfull!

However i'm not sure about second picture where distances between left and right parts of frame are different...

Not every but most of them yes. Bike wasn't used for at least 5 years and definitely was kept in open air condition. However engine started from the first kick...

why worry.... :D chop'er up and turn it into a cafe/tracker/chopper...whatever floats your boat..by the looks of it, it's a good candidate for a full chop job anyways:pimp:

Thank all of you very much!

Edit:

frwinks:

My plan is to turn it in to cafe racer. That's the reason i bought bike in this questionable condition. However Cafe racer should ride well, and if geometry is disorted it won't be ;(.

In my opinion the bike does not seem to have the proper stance to it.In the one picture unless its just the pic the front wheel does not seem to align up properly.I know it cost more $ but if it was me I`d find another frame.

Here are some pics... I can measure it during the weekend...if you are interested

Nothing wrong with those welds. They look perfectly fine and if they arent cracking, there is nothing to be concerned about. All thats needed for a smooth ride is that the front and rear wheels to be in alignment.

looks like factory, the welds on bike are abysmal and embarrassing and frustrating because im a welder!!!! my backbone is not straight lolz

Hi!

Actually, Now i'm sure that frame is broken. After dismantling it is very easy to notice that front of the frame is skewed. However i managed to buy another frame from 77 so problem is partial resolved, now i have to figure out what to do with the broken one :)

I wasn't following xs400.com quite often recently, but i made some progress with bike and later i create new thread with some pics.

Many thanks for replay!

If the broken frame has the serial number intact and a title, it may command a descent price from someone with a bike and no title, so don't scrap it.
