Hey folks, this thread is mostly an inquiry of opinion as well as me being curious about painting the engine casing.

First off is regarding the types of paint used to paint the engine casing:

Considering the bike is air-cooled, what paint is the best to be long lasting but also allow sufficient heat to escape for cooling?

Second question is with regard to timing of when to paint:

I'll have the engine totally taken apart in little over a week, which makes me think that maybe I should sandblast/paint it now so that I don't have to rip it all down again after i'm sure it works.

The catch 22 is this:

tear down, put it all back together. If it works, great! now must tear down again to paint.

tear down, paint, but it back together. If it doesn't work, shit, gotta tear it down and probably mess up the paintjob, if it does work, then yay?

If you can drop a few lines to let me know what your opinion on this stage is that would be sweet. Many thanks!

Tear down

Paint

Make sure everything is in spec

Reassemble correctly

Ride

If you follow the procedures in the manual and make sure everything is in spec you're very unlikely to have to pull the engine a second time.

As far as I can tell high temp engine paint is what most people use.
