fix seat so that the latch catches

the seat latch on my wifes new 400 doesn't want to catch. Does the part of the catch mounted to the bike need a spring on it? sort of looks like the catches need to rotate back into position with a spring, does anyone know how this works or can someone send a pic of the mechanism please

Part SEAT SPRING 90508-20412. Just replaced mine, and is much better now!

where does the seat spring go, ours doesn't have one right now, i have several springs that look like they would work, i just don't know how they attach

It goes on the hook rod of the seat assembly. Remove two screws from one of hook rod mounts, slide the rod out of the other mount, install the spring, and replace.

I made my own from scratch, because imma cheapskate. Two bucks for one of those door springs, then I cut it to five turns each and uncoiled one turn on either side for the latch. Piece 'o cake.
