Frame compatibility

I was just wondering if the 400 frame and the 360 frame were the same thing. If anyone knows, please let me know. Thank you.

76-77 xs360 and the 77-79 xs400 where basically the same. The 80-82 used a longer and wider swing arm (1 inch) and had a pull off seat instead of the hinged one. Also the tank on the 76-77 xs360 and the 77 D and 78 2-E or square ones would need to have the rear mounting bolt modded to fit xs400's with the tear drop style.

You will also have to take into account if the frames are set up for rear drum or disc brakes because the disc models will have different mounting tabs than one set up for drums.

There is a small difference within just the 400 frames. I suspect the early 400 frames are similar to the 360 but not the last two year specials.

My original bike is a 78 xs400 with disc brakes. I had someone hardtail it for me, but completely butchered it, so i am going a different direction with it. looking to build a cafe racer.
