Hey guys, I got a few more questions. My front caliper and MC has a lot of crap and corrosion inside it, and the paint especially on the MC is all messed up. So I plan on cleaning and repainting them. But I just want to explain what I am figuring on doing and you let me know if any of it would be a big NO-NO...so here goes:
First soak them both in brake fluid to try to soften up any gunk left over inside, and use a dremel tool with a small nylon bristle brush first to get out corrosion and gunk. Followed by a small polishing wheel to finish em out.
That's inside, then I need to strip the paint off of them, I bought rust oleum aircraft stripper (methylene cloride really) and spray them down to remove paint. Once all paint is off I will sand areas to be painted with fine grit paper, blow the crap out of em with compressed air, final cleaning with acetone, and mask them off and paint them with VHT caliper paint.
DOES ANY OF THIS SOUND LIKE IT WILL RUIN OR DESTROY CALIPER/MC???
I AM MOSTLY WORRIED ABOUT THE STRIPPER. wish I had access to blasting equip. But I dont. Nor the time or $$ to send them to be blasted. Want to do it over the weekend, just gonna go get a Dremel tool
Knockoff from harbor freight. There is no way to clean up inside the piston area of the caliper or the reservoir in MC by hand with a toothbrush...crazy...never had to do this to a break system so it my first time dealing with it. Anyone who has done with crap before have any pointers?? How do you get em cleaned out good without wrecking them??
